Job Description, Duties, Interview Questions and Salary For Driver or Chauffeur

A driver or chauffeur is responsible for transporting guests to and from the hotel or resort. They must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record. In addition to driving, they may also be responsible for maintaining the vehicle, such as filling up the gas tank, checking oil levels, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and in good working condition.

Chauffeurs must have excellent customer service skills and be able to provide a comfortable and safe experience for guests. They may be required to assist with luggage and ensure that guests’ needs are met during the drive. They must also have a good knowledge of the local area and be able to navigate to different locations quickly and efficiently.

In some cases, a driver or chauffeur may also be responsible for running errands for the hotel or resort, such as picking up supplies or delivering packages. They must be reliable and punctual, with the ability to work flexible hours as needed.

As a Chauffeur or driver in the hotel, your primary responsibility is to transport the hotel’s guests upon arrival, departure, and any other driving-related duties and responsibilities. Additionally, you should also assist other departments with their transportation requirements eg. driving around the hotel’s sales team to attend sales calls.

Also responsible for the upkeeping of the vehicle at all times and providing excellent service to the guests as per the hotel’s standard service procedures.

Hotel Driver Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Able to meet all the comfort requirements of the hotel guests and customers.
  2. Able to drive safely and efficiently.
  3. Responsible for assisting the guests in any travel or destination regarding issues by applying his/ her knowledge of the local area.
  4. Able to keep a record of all the incidents while driving, for example, any accidents or tickets.
  5. Able to ensure safe and easy travel for the customers/ guests to their destinations or the hotel.
  6. Able to file the record of the timings for which the vehicle was used and the purpose to his/ her superior.
  7. Able to comply with all the traffic/ road rules and regulations of the state while also following the policies of the hotel authorities.
  8. Responsible for ensuring the safety of the guests while travelling.
  9. Responsible for ensuring the security of guest belongings while travelling.
  10. Ensure that the guests are wearing seat belts.
  11. Able to welcome the guest with a placard at the airport.
  12. Maintain good coordination with the hotel’s airport representative.
  13. Able to maintain a positive conversation with the guests.
  14. Should follow all designated SOP’s for any vehicle breakdowns and accidents.
  15. Assist the guests with the luggage as and when required.
  16. Transport guest luggage to and from the designated bell desk or lobby area.
  17. Provide complimentary water and cold towels (as per the hotel’s standard operating policy SOP) once the guest is seated comfortably in the car.
  18. Maintain proper records of the trip starting and ending kilometers or miles.
  19. The guest’s signature must be taken if the room bill is to be posted on the folio.
  20. If the guest is paying the taxi fare by cash then the exact tender or change must be returned to the guest.
  21. If the guest is paying by credit or debit card then he/she should be able to handle the mobile EDC (Electronic Data capture machine) and swipe the accurate charges on the machine.
  22. Follow the standard route and reporting schedule at all times.
  23. Forward or report all guest complaints, problems, or incidents to the manager on duty or travel desk manager.
  24. Perform any trips and drives with the hotel car/bus as requested.
  25. Responsible to park the car at designated parking areas and also follow the parking policy.
  26. Obey all traffic and driving regulations like speed limit etc at all times.
  27. Keep the vehicle spotless in both exterior and interior appearance.
  28. In charge of the maintenance of his vehicle service dues, cleaning, keeping, and running condition.
  29. He/she is responsible for reporting to the superiors regarding all incidents.
  30. Assist hotel administrative departments with transportation requirements like sales calls etc.
  31. Always maintain positive customer relations at all times.
  32. Have a good knowledge of the hotel’s facilities and services.
  33. Able to provide information on hotel amenities, activities, restaurants, and any places of interest near the hotel.
  34. Able to provide details on hotel room features like wifi, minibar, tea coffee maker, and other amenities if asked by the guest.
  35. Responsible for maintaining either the hotel’s vehicle or the vehicle of third-party service providers.
  36. Keep the assigned car or vehicle clean and ensure that it is mechanically sound.
  37. The vehicle must be spotless in appearance and ready to go for a drive without issue at all times.
  38. Inspect the vehicle using the car/limousine checklist and rectify any issues found during the checking.
  39. Ensure effective handover from the earlier shift and sign on the log book.
  40. Preferably non-smokers due to the proximity with the guest, use mouth freshness to avoid bad odors.
  41. Maintain high grooming and personal hygiene standards.
  42. Always wear a proper uniform with a name tag nicely polished (if required).
  43. Practices accident prevention measures.
  44. Maintains good personal safety and grooming standards.
  45. Maintain the parking spaces and key cabinet and ensure cleanliness is to the maximum.
  46. Treat all clients and colleagues politely and courteously at all times.
  47. Perform any other duties as assigned by the management.

Position Title: Driver/Chauffeur

Reports To: Travel Desk Manager / Chief Concierge

Prerequisites:

  1. Excellent driving skills.
  2.  Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
  3.  No black points on the license.
  4.  The ideal candidate will be a well-presented, young-minded individual with an outgoing and friendly attitude.

Education:

High school or similar educational qualification.

Experience:

2-3 years prior hotel experience required in a similar role.
